Not newsworthy. It's a meaningless gesture, an individual grandstanding. It has no support from either party's leadership and no chance whatsoever of moving forward, and wisely so. The time to impeach would have been a couple years ago but even then it would have been very difficult. Bush has wrapped himself so tightly in the flag and entrenched patriotism so strongly in his actions that still too many people would see it as unpatriotic, treasonous, undermining the troops, supporting the terrorists, etc. Take your pick. <BR/><BR/>Bush will be gone anyways in a few months and no one wants to alienate potiental voters whose support will be needed for the forthcoming change. These are the swing voters who supported Bush's actions earlier and who although have turned against him now would be uncomfortable at being reminded of their earlier foolishness and would rather not revisit the past. <BR/><BR/>In the years ahead the vultures (the historians) will pick over George Bush's carcass and they will not be kind. Many of his "friends" and former colleagues will not be kind either. The recent damning book by his former Press Secretary is just a taste of what's to come as many attempt to cleanse themselves and distance themselves as best possible from such a failed Presidency. Impeach Bush? Not necessary. He's good for a quote, and some wing nut moon battery, but that's about it. Apparently he's a good senator, but nobody takes him seriously outside that arena.<BR/><BR/>Besides, Bush is on his way out as it is. Come January 22nd he leaves office. So impeachment and trial is considered a waste of time.<BR/><BR/>Think of it as a variation on the story of the boy who cried wolf.
