Japan's new "K" supercomputer has just taken the title of the world's fastest computer. It uses nearly 70,000 processors, occupies 672 cabinets, and consumes about six million pounds worth of electricity each year. Currently, it can handle 8.16 quadrillion operations per second, which will rise to 10 quadrillion operations when it's finished next year -- at which point scientists believe it will be capable of running Windows Vista smoothly.
