SEA OF GHOSTS

After a minor glitch with the supply, the hardcover is now available to buy on Amazon. I noticed there's a quote from a bookseller review, which I haven't seen. Did I put a metallic dragon in the book? I'm trying to think of where and when I might have slipped such a thing in, but it's leaving me scratching my head.

Now all that remains is to see if anyone buys it. Personally, I'm very pleased with this book. And Larry Rostant's cover is just sublime. If I didn't already know how the story ends, I'd buy it myself on the strength of that cover. Heck, maybe I will.

I've been very lucky with covers. I absolutely loved Dominic Harman's work, too.

Anyhow, now the book is out, I'll do my usual and avoid returning to the amazon page. I just can't read reviews. I worry too much. Reading a bad review is like finding out they're going to open a Methadone clinic next to the house you've just built and put up for sale.

That said, I'm aware that there are reviews out there already, and I'd like to thank those of you who have taken the time to read the book and let others know what you thought of it. I genuinely mean that, whether you gave the book a good review or a good review.

For anyone thinking about buying Sea of Ghosts, how about going through a nice indie bookshop? We need to support these guys. Without indie bookshops, the world would be like ITV. Imagine the horror.

Back to work now.

p.s

If you run an indie bookshop and want to put a link in the comments here, please do so. Although, since I haven't updated this blog since September, and nobody reads it anymore, it isn't going to do a sodding thing for advertising.

p.p.s

If this book doesn't sell, I shall be tempted to ask Katie Price to ghostwrite the next one, which will either be about baking, Simon Cowell, or a cartoon rat.

Hooray! Will try to get my copy from Transreal then. Been looking forward to Sea Of Ghosts for ages now, I even thought of starting up a book blog just so that I could try to blag an ARC of this ;)

Cheers, Jer. Would be good to see you at the book launch again, whenever that turns out to be. I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I know.

I loved the Deepgate Codex series. So, just to prove you wrong about the fact that no one reads this blog, I'll be ordering SEA OF GHOSTS. That'll teach you!

I for one visit your blog once every couple of days. You know, there might be something new, a comment or something...
I haven't yet bought Sea of Ghosts, but I am really looking forward to it!
And please, don't stop writing the books you do: there is no other writer who manages to write such original and yet still sensible fantasy. (I'm not really sure how to explain what I mean by that, but my point is that despite its many 'weird' elements, the story still feels solid and sense-making, something I have never seen anyone else do...)

So congrats on your fourth published novel and good luck with your next one!

Thanks, guys. Stefano, I understand what you mean. There's definitely a line. I think, as a fantasy writer, you have to be careful of crossing over it into parody. Crossing into allegory, on the other hand, seems fine to me. I tend to stray in that direction a lot, or so it seems to me.

I made some calculations last week and am now walking wherever I need to go as the bus takes up too much of my allready limited food-budget. And then I happen to that your book is out and spend 4 days of food-money in a matter of seconds. Not a hint of regret.

"Not a hint of regret."

You haven't read it yet! If the worse comes to the worst, I'll send you some packet noodles.

Best of luck with this Alan; looking forward to reading it.

Hey Alan, I'm sorry to say that I have already ordered the book from Amazon, but hey I bought it! Firstly, stop being so self loathing, your books are fantastic as I'm sure this one will be.
Secondly, I was wondering if you have a target date for the second part? A year, 2 years etc.
Thanks, Shane

Hi Shane. I hope you enjoy the book.
I haven't confirmed release date for part two, but I expect it will be around about the same time next year. Cheers.

I just stumbled across this blog after wistfully wondering if you were writing any more books in the near future. So I am pleasantly surprised to hear I don't have to wait and there's already a book for me to buy (which I am going to do immediately)!

There you have it, someone buys your books, with feverish delight no less!
