Art V2.0

Another couple of great images of Carnival from feralphoenix The first image will make immediate sense to those of you who have read "God of Clocks". Could it be counted as a spoiler? Who cares. These are too good not to post.

Carnival, Russian Style

While we're on this arty theme...

Copies of the Russian version of "Scar Night" arrived today, complete with a mad fab fantasy cover in which Carnival has lost her scars, but gained a vampire rock-chick leotard and some Freddy Krueger finger-blades to compensate. Not that I mind. I think it's outrageously cool. It's not every day you see your name in Cyrillic.

Deepgate Art

Over the next few days I'm going to be posting some superb artwork created by fans of the series. It's been an absolute delight to discover these pictures, and I'm very much in awe of the talent on display. I'll post them as soon as the artists give me permission to do so.

Here is a striking, atmospheric image of Carnival by MadMindInc

And a wonderful drawing of Dill on the spire of his tower by freddyfrijolero

Gary Mckinnon

I received the following email, and thought I'd post it here. I've always felt that this was a ridiculously harsh punishment to give a computer geek looking for aliens, so I've signed the petition. If you agree, then hopefully some of you will sign it, too.

---

Gary Mckinnon hacked into insecure US government systems. Why? Well there are many sides to this story, the US government, Gary’s and I guess the whole PR offensive to save him from extradition. Gary is clearly a young man with exceptional computer skills, and has since been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome (a kind of Autism). The US government are going for life imprisonment. This to me is just crazy, cruel and to almost any sane person, a ridiculous waste of time and resources.

From what I can tell, all Gary really did was embarrass the US government by burrowing deep into what they thought was a secure system. Surely giving him a job to find weaknesses in systems is a much better use of his talents? Gary is clearly is no international terrorist, for which this extradition treaty really exists. And the consequences are very real. He could be locked away for life in a maximum security facility.

So, I have just signed on online petition at the 10 Downing Street website. I hope you feel compelled to do the same.

Eurovision

Watching the Eurovision Song Contest last night, I couldn't help but wonder if the Greek singer was trying to suggest something during the last ten seconds of his act. Is it just me, or does there appear to be something quite lewd about the climax of the song?

Not that there's anything suggestive in the lyrics.

"Time has come, so make a stand"

"Rising up, get into place"

"When I look into your eyes
It comes, as no surprise"

The Worst 10 Stories I Ever Tried to Write

If you can bear to peek at the worst stories I've ever tried to write, they're here at Suvudu.com.

I had about 25 of these, all written years ago and then abandoned. The hardest part was deciding which 10 were the absolute worst. There was some pretty stiff competition.

Devil's Night

The German version of "Iron Angel" arrived this week. It's called "Devil's Night", and I think the cover is rather excellent.
